Fitting the shear strake

Can anyone share their experience of fitting the shear strake? The penultimate strake fits to notches on the moulds so that must be correct, but the shear strake is a problem.

I don't remember a particular problem with this, other than just making the top of the sheer strake flush with the tops of the frames. The overlap between strakes is pretty constant for all of them, so you could always pencil an overlap line to guide you before gluing?

I screwed a couple of wooden tabs flush with the "top" of  the moulds.
You can just see them sticking out from under the sheer in this photo.



I also made a little wooden guage to mark the width of the lands before starting to plane the bevel.

Thanks. The ply required a lot of persuasion, but I have now managed to get it glued within allowed overlap tolerances and with a pleasing shear line. Perhaps my choice of Robbins Super Elite ply (i.e. all Sapele) just for the top strake made it harder?

Thanks. I like your wooden tabs - it would have saved me a lot of 'checking with head upside down'...never a great way of working!
